Q: Hello, and welcome. How are you?

A: Doing great, thanks.

As a fresher, this may be the first question you hear from an interviewer. You just need to show that you have a good attitude.

Q: Do you think of yourself as an introvert or an extrovert?

A: I think I’m a mix of both. I try to be as social as the situation calls for.

The interviewer wants to make sure you’re not on either extreme.

Q: How much money are you hoping to make?

A: That’s a tough question. What do people usually make in this position?

This is a loaded question. You want to see the figures the interviewer has in mind, first.

Q: Do you feel your college experience has prepared you for this job?

A: Yes, at college I did an internship, wrote many papers, and engaged in the local community. That prepared me for the job.

The interviewer wants to see how your schooling prepared you for the job. This is especially relevant when you don’t have outside experience.

Q: How do you respond when you’re faced with a situation you don’t know the answer to?

A: I do my best to get the answer. If I can’t, I go with my gut instinct and take responsibility for the situation.
The employer needs to make sure you do well with ambiguity. Especially since as a fresher you’ll meet a lot of situations you don’t know the answer to.

Q: Where do you hope to be in five years?

A: I’d like to have greater responsibility, matched by a greater knowledge of the industry.

For this question, the interviewer just wants to know that you’re hardworking and ambitious. It’s also important that as a young person you take time to conceptualize the future.

Q: Do you consider yourself a team player?

A: Yes.

This is a straightforward question. Shouldn’t be too hard.

Q: What do you read in your free time?

A: I enjoy The New Yorker and The Financial Times.

The interviewer wants to make sure that you’re smart for your age.

Q: Describe yourself without mentioning what’s on the resume.

A: I’ve wanted to be a teacher my whole life, because I had good teachers and I feel a duty to give back to the teaching world.

The interviewer already knows what’s on the resume. They want more information about you as you relate to this potential job.

Q: What is your greatest weakness?

A: I like to be in control. Now that I know this about myself, I’m doing my best to let go.

The interviewer wants to see that you’re honest about your flaws, and also that you’re working to fix them.
