Throughout most of a teacher’s career, they’re the one asking the questions. The two biggest exceptions are when a students asks, “When are we ever going to use this in the real world?” and during interviews for teaching positions. Q: What made you decide to become a teacher?
A: I enjoy working with children.
A: I had a lot of good teachers when I was younger, and I wanted to do for kids what these teachers did for me.

There are a million possible answers to this question. The important thing to do is just be honest.
Q: What does your classroom look like?
A: Organized, but with plenty of stimulus for the mind.
This question is another one that’ll have a lot of variation, but at the end of the day you want to convey that the classroom will be in control, while also sparking creativity and curiosity.
Q: Do you like team teaching?
A: Yes, I enjoy the opportunity to work with a colleague while exposing students to multiple teaching figures.
This questions shows that you’re willing to work with a team, which is very important. It also shows a certain flexibility: when you’re working with a team, you can’t always have things your way.
Q: How do you evaluate a student’s progress?
A: I try and use a variety of methods: tests, group work, recitations, etc.
The important thing here is to show that you’re willing to target a variety of different learning styles.
Q: How would you describe your teaching philosophy?
A: My experience in the classroom has led me to believe that you have to be as kind as possible, while also maintaining classroom discipline.
This is another very personal question. Your philosophy should be personal beliefs about teaching that were inspired by your own experiences in the classroom.
Q: Do you enjoy teaching children?
We hope this answer comes somewhat naturally to you.
Q: Describe the ideal principal.
A: The ideal principal is someone who cares for the school and has a plan to see it succeed.
This is a tricky one. It’s all a matter of values.
Q: How will you handle classroom discipline?
A: At the beginning of the school year, I’ll let my students know what is and isn’t tolerated. My goal is to foster a safe learning environment.
This will vary from teacher to teacher, but the important thing is to have a plan.
Q: What value do you add to the team of teachers we’ve already employed?
A: I like sharing my experiences with others. That way we all know that we’re not alone.
This is another question that lets the interviewer know you’re a good team player.
Q: Do you have any questions for us?
A: Will the school be addressing any major issues this year?
You always want to have a question for the interviewer. It should be non-researchable.
